The 'I Am, I Can, I Will' Mindset: Transforming Your Real Estate Success

Hey there, Rick Melero here. Throughout my journey, I've learned that success is as much about mindset as it is about strategy. Today, I want to share with you the power of the 'I Am, I Can, I Will' mindset and how it can transform your real estate career.

Understanding the 'I Am, I Can, I Will' Concept

The 'I Am, I Can, I Will' concept is more than just a catchy phrase. It's a powerful mindset that can reshape your entire approach to real estate investing. Let's break it down:

  1. "I Am": This is about your identity. It's who you believe yourself to be at your core.

  2. "I Can": This represents your capabilities. It's about recognizing your potential and believing in your ability to achieve your goals.

  3. "I Will": This is your commitment. It's the determination to take action and persist until you succeed.

This mindset is all about belief in yourself, your capabilities, and your commitment to success. It's about shifting from a passive, doubtful mindset to an active, confident one.

How Mindset Impacts Real Estate Success

Your mindset is the foundation of everything you do in real estate. Here's how it can impact your success:

  1. Opportunity Recognition: A positive mindset helps you see opportunities where others see obstacles. You're more likely to spot good deals and innovative solutions.

  2. Risk Tolerance: A strong mindset gives you the courage to take calculated risks, which is essential in real estate investing.

  3. Resilience: Real estate can be challenging. A robust mindset helps you bounce back from setbacks and keep pushing forward.

  4. Confidence: When you believe in yourself, others believe in you too. This can help in negotiations, networking, and attracting partners or investors.

  5. Action-Oriented: A strong mindset motivates you to take consistent action, which is key to success in real estate.

Let me share a personal example. When I first started out, I was known as "Ricky." One day, my manager, Phillip, pulled me aside and said, "From now on, your new name is Rick. Rick is who I want to give my money to. Rick is a man. Rick is a success. Rick is a business entrepreneur." This simple shift in how I identified myself completely transformed my performance and confidence.

Exercises to Build a Stronger Investor Mindset

Exercises to Build a Stronger Investor Mindset

Building a strong mindset doesn't happen overnight, but there are exercises you can practice to strengthen your 'I Am, I Can, I Will' mentality:

  1. Daily Affirmations: Start your day by affirming your identity as a successful real estate investor. "I am a savvy real estate investor. I can spot great opportunities. I will achieve my financial goals."

  2. Visualize Success: Spend time each day visualizing yourself succeeding in your real estate endeavors. See yourself closing deals, managing properties successfully, or achieving your financial goals.

  3. Reframe Challenges: When faced with obstacles, practice reframing them as opportunities to learn and grow. Ask yourself, "What can I learn from this? How can this make me a better investor?"

  4. Set and Review Goals: Regularly set clear, achievable goals and review your progress. This reinforces your belief in your ability to succeed.

  5. Continuous Learning: Commit to ongoing education in real estate. The more you know, the more confident you'll become in your abilities.

  6. Surround Yourself with Success: Spend time with other successful investors. Their mindset and success will inspire and motivate you.

Real-Life Examples of Mindset Shifts

Let me share a couple of examples from my own experience that illustrate the power of mindset:

The Capital One Challenge

Early in my career at Capital One, I set a goal to break the sales record and hit 400 sales in a month. The previous record was only 125. Many thought I was crazy, but I believed I could do it. This belief drove me to push harder than ever before. By the end of the month, I had come close to my goal, and even though I fell slightly short, I had shattered the previous record. This experience showed me the power of setting big goals and believing in your ability to achieve them.

The Ukrainian Children's Transformation

During a trip to Ukraine for a philanthropic project, we taught a group of children the 'I Am, I Can, I Will' concept. We challenged them to learn English and promised to return with tablets if they succeeded. When we came back a year later, we were blown away by their progress. Many of them had prepared full PowerPoint presentations in English. Their belief in themselves, sparked by the 'I Am, I Can, I Will' mindset, had led to remarkable achievements.

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

One of the biggest obstacles to success in real estate is our own limiting beliefs. These are the negative thoughts that tell us we're not good enough, smart enough, or experienced enough to succeed. Recognizing and overcoming these beliefs is crucial to developing a strong investor mindset.

Here are some common limiting beliefs in real estate and how to reframe them:

  1. "I don't have enough money to invest in real estate." Reframe: "There are many creative strategies to invest in real estate with little money down. I can learn and apply these strategies."

  2. "The market is too competitive. All the good deals are gone." Reframe: "There are always opportunities in real estate. I can develop the skills to find and create great deals."

  3. "I don't know enough about real estate to be successful." Reframe: "I am committed to continuous learning. Every day, I'm gaining knowledge and experience that will make me a successful investor."

  4. "I'm too young/old to start investing in real estate." Reframe: "My age gives me unique advantages in real estate investing. I can leverage my [energy and fresh perspective / wisdom and life experience] to succeed."

Remember, your beliefs shape your reality. By consciously choosing empowering beliefs, you set yourself up for success in real estate investing.

Conclusion

The 'I Am, I Can, I Will' mindset is a powerful tool for transforming your real estate success. It's about believing in yourself, recognizing your potential, and committing to taking action. By cultivating this mindset, you'll be better equipped to spot opportunities, overcome challenges, and achieve your real estate goals.

Remember, success in real estate isn't just about knowledge or strategies. It's about the mindset you bring to every deal, every challenge, and every opportunity. Embrace the 'I Am, I Can, I Will' mentality, and watch how it transforms not just your real estate career, but your entire life.

Now, I challenge you: Look in the mirror and tell yourself, "I am a successful real estate investor. I can overcome any challenge. I will achieve my goals." Believe it, embody it, and then go out there and make it happen!
